THE hot topic of the moment: the United Kingdom officially leaving the European Union. As a British national, and a keen Europhile, needless to say these are sad times for me. The advantages I have enjoyed as an EU citizen will no longer be just a formality for my children as they grow up. Gone are the days of Erasmus exchanges, enjoying carefree freedom of movement to discover the world as a student.

Nevertheless, as a good, respectable Brit, I shall KEEP CALM AND CARRY ON: I'm ready to complete my application for a residency permit to continue living in France. I shall carry on teaching my children English while they learn La Marseillaise at school. And as soon as Covid-related travel restrictions ease, I shall travel once again to the UK to visit my family.

Luckily, I'm an optimist and tend to look on the bright side. Every cloud has a silver lining, as you all know! Or to quote the great Oscar Wilde, "The basis of optimism is sheer terror." What's your view of the matter?!
