The most translated document in the world is the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, currently available in over 500 languages! The celebrated, 6-page text, was adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in December 1948 with the aim of setting out fundamental human rights to be universally protected. It was declared the most translated document by Guinness World Records in 1999, with translations available in 298 languages and dialects. It went on to reach 370 translations in 2009, and the total now stands at 524!!
But did you know that translation of the UDHR is an on-going project? Anyone is welcome to contribute a new translation in a language or dialect not already featured. To find out more, go to: https://www.ohchr.org/EN/UDHR/Pages/Introduction.aspx
For those of you who are not familiar with the Declaration, here is an extract:
“Article 1: All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights”
